It's not in full swing yet, but winter is definitely approaching. The past week hasn't really gotten above 40 during the day, and for some reason the wind here is incredible which makes it feel even colder. The other day we were doing morning chores and it was raining sideways and I literally felt like I was in the middle of a hurricane- the horses weren't too thrilled about it either! They shuffled along sideways while I tried to bring them in. But the rain stopped by noon and the day carried on just fine. I got to take a few horses to Paris (a very large galloping hill) the other day with Tim and Marley which was so much fun, the farm is absolutely gorgeous and the hill is killer, not just for the horses but for myself as well. It really showed me how out of galloping shape I'm in, even though we only did some trotting up it. I had a really good jumping lesson on Leo the other day, Tim said my upper body is improving a lot which I'm thrilled with, but my legs and seat feel so much more secure as well. I've been really trying to work on my seat and legs on the flat lately, because I just don't feel so balanced and it's pretty frustrating when I know if I was just a little stronger in the legs or could keep my weight in my heels and sink my center down (and so on and so forth), I'd be able to communicate clearer to the horses. Tim says it's time for a new saddle; I would really enjoy a new dressage saddle, but unfortunately I don't have that cash just lying around right now! I have to save up so Oopsie can come in the winter, and right now as long as I can cut back on the food consumption until February, it looks like he should be arriving about the first weekend that month. I can't wait for him to get here so I can apply all my newly polished skills to him, he's not going to know what hit him that's for sure. Al (LFF Al, not WIF Al) is doing sooo so well on the flat; we started cantering this week without any bucking! He's been so much fun and I love feeling the transformation of him coming back from not so much work to being ridden pretty much daily. He is really fun to ride and has quite a nice large lofty trot (when he's not so lazy) and I'm guessing once his cantering muscles build up, his canter will be very nice as well.
Hillary said according to the news lady we're in for some snow soon! I'm excited but also wondering what kind of extra work that will bring to the farm... guess we'll see! I meant to go to bed about two hours ago as I am trying to ward off this cold that seems to be going around the barn but clearly I got carried away on the internet.
